4th Quarter Binay Cup 2010

It's an early LOPTTA Christmas at the 4th Quarterly Binay Cup 2010.
Congratulations to Mr. Diotay Lopue whose children proteges hacked through the Binay Cup 2010 like an "ispading in a sugarcane field during harvest time".

The LOPTTA children took 5 out of the 8 Championship trophies in their respective age groups from 10U up to 17U - a whopping 62.5% batting average for Bacolod's premiere table tennis club. Almost, if not, all LOPTTA kids who campaigned in Makati were veterans of the Palarong Pambansa 2010 held in Tarlac earlier this year.

If anything, Binay Cup is all about children... we salute Coach Gigi and company for this noble concept.

Gomez E.S.), LOPTTA chief Mr. Diotay Lopue and Binay Cup top honcho Coach Gigi Aguinalde.

And of course, Marell Lagunday captured the women's non-rank crown - who said that the LOPTTA juggernaut are all kids?
Congrats gid Mr. Diotay and LOPTTA...

Who has the biggest heart?
Double congratulations to the other Binay Cup champions - Jorge Victorio of Laguna (Boys 12U) & Lyr Leyva of UE (Girls 17U). These few valiant kids didn't cave in to the onslaught of the LOPTTA juggernaut who simply demolished everyone on their way to the Finals.
One big common denminator bonds all these winners, they're all Palarong Pambansa veterans from their respective regions!
Will the coming March 2011 edition of Binay Cup turn out to be a preview of sorts of the Palarong Pambansa less than 2 months later?
With the free accomodation in Makati and all... ask the Bacolod and Romblon folks...

Kakosa is on a roll...

Congrats to METTA chief Ting Ledesma for winning this Binay Cup's Men's Open over steep opposition from Andrew Timzon of TATAND. Ting also felled LOPTTA's top warrior Isaias Seronio on his way to the Finals. The big, dark horse of the tournament was Davao's top lefty hitter Ablanque...

Ting Ledesma's fiery style of play never cease to amaze everyone. Once the swinging starts at 0-0, it's all high energy action up to the finishing kick at 11(++). And Mr. Ting does not seem to run out of steam at all (sometimes I'm beginning to suspect that it's not really cigs he's smoking but maybe oxygen sticks, and the smoke is just a decoy!) .

Mr. Ledesma, we just want you to know that we think the 'Give-it-all-you've-got' (with all those full swings) game attitude and 'A-gallon-of-sweat-for-every-point' (with all those breakneck spurts and lunges towards and away from the table) style of play like yours is what makes Table Tennis extraordinary and a great sport to watch. How I wish that all the budding pongers get to see, and draw inspiration from, your official games.

Bulldog Freshman Ryan Rodney A. Jacolo gets National University into the 2010 Manila H.S. Boys Table Tennis Team

The Competition.
The Manila Meet is a part of the ladder competition conducted by DepEd culminating in the yearly Palarong Pambansa held every summer.

The Acid Test.
NASH, a 12-year old NU freshman and a 2-time Palarong Pambansa veteran in the Elementary Division (formerly from Quezon City), finished the 17U tournament with a 7-2 win/loss record. Mentored by NU Headcoach Judit Yulde, NASH had a perfect Eliminations Round. He was set back once in the Round of 16 but fought back hard to prevail in the Quarterfinals. NASH entered the Magic 4 bracket with a good 6-1 card, sneaked past Daniel Cua in the semis, but lost his next match to Walden Ledesma who went on to bag the Silver Medal.

The Victory
Ranking 3rd in a field of 32 after 3 days of grueling action wasn't a bad start for NASH (Ryan Rodney A. Jacolo) in his maiden campaign in this year's Manila Meet Table Tennis Competition for H.S. Boys.

The Results.
Top 4 players coming from both public and private schools were selected to compete for the City of Manila in the NCR Meet in February next year.
Champion : Michael Villamor (Arellano University)
2nd Place : Walden Ledesma (Chiang Kai Shek School)
3rd Place : Ryan Rodney Jacolo (National University)
4th Place : Daniel Cua (St. Stephen)

2 firsts for NASH:
This is the first time the National University join the Manila Meet.
This is NASH's first ever try-out for the Manila H.S. Boys Table Tennis Team.

Not bad for a Bronze Medal...
